People often can’t help but smile when they see six-year-old Kamryn Bond lay a wreath with her friend, Shannon Krasowski, 40, at their local Remembrance Day ceremony. Although an unlikely pair, they are both amputees and are part of a legacy that goes back nearly 100 years.

Church chatter - Nov. 4

Rivers United Church has been a busy place this fall. The semi-annual indoor garage sale held in late September continues to be very successful. It is quite an undertaking to put on an event such as this; Lynn Madden and her crew are to be commended on a job well done! As well, thank yous are extended to Shirley Kamula, Dianne Kowalchuk and the many hands that contributed to the success of the fall supper held in mid-October.

Ordination for Rev. Sally

Family and friends gathered at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Brandon the evening of Friday, Oct. 28 to witness the ordination of Rev. Sally Carter to priesthood of the Anglican Church of Canada. A crucifer (person who carries a cross) led lay readers, deacons, clergy, canons and archdeacons up the aisle, followed by Rev. Sally, her presenters and Bishop William. When no less than 12 robed individuals were assembled at  the front of the church, they made an impressive visual for the audience.

St. James’ salutes Shorts

Longtime members of St. James’ Anglican Church in Rivers were honoured at a luncheon following the Sunday, Oct. 30 service. Norman and Donna Short are moving to the Winnipeg area this week. Both have been dedicated supporters of St. James’ in various capacities: choir, Sunday school, co-ordinators of suppers, work bees and fundraisers, to name a few. Norm has served as lay reader for a number of years and acted as treasurer for both St. James’ Church and the Holy Saints Parish.

Local exhibitors win big at Ag Ex

In the Manitoba Ag-Ex Junior Charolais Show, held Oct. 29, Madisyn Robertson, of Neepawa, had the grand champion Charolais female with JMB Sweetie 606D, a January daughter of KRF What-A-Boy 104Y and JMB Ms Dateline 114Y.
