Home Assistance Neepawa and District looking to purchase stair chair |

Province announces increased public school funding |

RCMP make second break and enter arrest |

myWestman.ca On Friday, Jan. 27, RCMP made a second arrest in relation to the break and enters that had occurred in the towns of MacGregor, Austin and Gladstone, Manitoba. Charges have since been laid. A 25-year-old man named John Richard and 26-year-old Shane Richard, both from Long Plain First Nation, Manitoba, have been charged with three counts of break and enter and theft, arson to a vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and fail to comply with a court order. Both have been held in custody and are scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie provincial court sometime today. No further information is available as Police continue to investigate the matter. |

A fire broke out at a house near Rolling Acres colony in the RM of Rosedale on Friday afternoon. Details of the cause and names of the people who reside at the house have yet to be released. |

RCMP make break and enter arrest |

myWestman.ca On Thursday, RCMP made an arrest in relation to a number of break and enters to businesses within several rural communities. Initial investigation revealed that suspects stole a vehicle and used it to commit break and enters in the towns of MacGregor, Austin and Gladstone. A substantial amount of liquor was stolen.
The vehicle and a large amount of the liquor has since been recovered. A 26-year-old male resident of Long Plain First Nation, Manitoba has been arrested and charges are pending. The RCMP along with the Winnipeg Major Crime Unit continue to investigate the crime. |

Brandon firefighter and union president fired |

myWestman.ca Wade Ritchie, firefighter and president of the Brandon Firefighters and Paramedics Association has been fired. Brandon media reports surfaced on Thursday mentioning the move was made official by the city and from Alex Forrest, president of the United Firefighters of Winnipeg and Canadian Trustee with the International Association of Fire Fighters. In October, the city of Brandon suspended Ritchie for five days and ended up demoting him from lieutenant to a rank-and-file firefighter. |

New correctional centre for women set to open |
