Weekend sports wrap: Eagles, Bandits advance to RBC Cup; Tigers open up season in Prairie West

The following is a complete look-back on what transpired in local sports over the weekend . . .
Eagles, Bandits advance to RBC Cup
The Surrey Eagles are the champions of the first-ever Western Canada Cup junior A hockey tournament.
The Eagles defeated the AJHL champion Brooks Bandits 4-1 in the 1 vs 2 page playoff game on Saturday night in Nanaimo, BC to claim the title.
The Eagles will now advance to the RBC Cup national junior A championship, which takes place May 11-19 in Summerside, P.E.I.
Brooks also advanced to the RBC Cup for the first time in franchise history after defeating the SJHL champion Yorkton Terriers 1-0 in the final game of the event on Sunday.
The MJHL champion Steinbach Pistons failed to advance to the playoffs, finishing with an 0-4 record at the event.
The Pistons roster included former Natives Justin Dalebozik, who finished the tourney with an assist in four games, Richard Olson, who was held pointless at the event and goaltender Corey Koop.
Onyshko wins three gold medals
Isabela Onyshko from the Brandon Eagles gymnastics club won three gold medals at the Western Canadian Gymnastics Championship in Winnipeg over the weekend.
Onyshko won top honours in the gold all-around, gold uneven bars and the gold beam events.
Onyshko and Team Manitoba wound up winning 27 medals in total, finishing in second place overall.
Bartel wins bronze
Reston product Lance Bartel was the lone Westman athlete who won a medal at the provincial high school badminton championship in Winnipeg over the weekend.
Bartel won a bronze medal in the boys singles event.
Tigers lose to Vincent Massey; defeat Boissevain
The Neepawa Tigers began their Prairie West High School Baseball League season on Sunday.
The Tigers dropped a 10-2 decision to the Vincent Massey Vikings.
Marshal Burgess struck out 10 Tigers hitters to pick up the win for the Vikings, while Cody Pasowisty took the loss on the mound for Neepawa.
Nick Noonan-Robinson drove both runs for Neepawa.
The Tigers played another game on Sunday, defeating the Boissevain Broncos 8-7.
Matt Sneesby drove in three runs and also picked up the win on the mound in 1 1/3 innings of work.
AAA Hockey Challenge
The Source for Sports AAA Hockey Challenge took place over the weekend.
The Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the ManSask Wolfpack 6-3 in the 2002 age division final, while the Bearcats beat the Wolfpack 5-3 to win the 2003 age division championship.
While, the Northern Predators defeated the Saskatchewan Grrrowl 14-2 in the 2004-2005 age division final.
Westman volleyball club successful
The 15-and-under girls' Westman volleyball club won a bronze medal at the provincial club volleyball championships over the weekend.
Jeanne Brenner had 12 kills, helping Westman defeat the Russell-based Brash volleyball club in three sets in the third place game.
