Safeway Championship update: Fowler defeats McEwen

Day 3 of the Safeway men's provincial curling championship has come to a close in Neepawa.

Draw 12 (first-round playoff games) saw a rematch of last year's final as defending champion Rob Fowler of Brandon took on Mike McEwen of Fort Rouge.

Fowler wound up winning the game by a score of 9-4 in seven ends.

McEwen took control of the game in the third end scoring three to make the score 4-1. Fowler however, would mount a comeback, scoring three in the fifth end, stealing three more in the sixth and two in the seventh to pick up the win.

Meanwhile, Sean Grassie of Deer Lodge defeated Dennis Bohn of Assiniboine Memorial 7-5, Terry McNamee of Brandon beat Scott Ramsay of Granite 8-2, while No. 1 seed Jeff Stoughton continues to roll, beating Steen Sigurdson of Fort Rouge by a score of 9-2.

Draw 13 will have Fowler taking on Grassie, McNamee battling Stoughton, McEwen against Bohn and Ramsay versus Sigurdson.

Action gets underway at 9:00 a.m. at the Yellowhead Centre.
