Safeway Championship update: Draw 7 and 8 complete

Eight draws are complete at the Safeway men's provincial curling championship in Neepawa.

 

In Draw 7, William Lyburn of Deer Lodge bounced back from his first loss of the championship and ended up defeating Graham Freeman of Virden 10-3 in seven ends.

Lyburn scored three points in the second, fifth and seventh ends en route to the victory.

The fourth -seeded Lyburn is still only one loss away from being eliminated however and next faces Kelly Robertson of Neepawa tomorrow.

Along with Lyburn and Robertson, Jerry Chudley, also from  Neepawa, Mark Lukowich of West Kildonan, and Scott Ramsay of Granite all advanced on the B side.

In Draw 8, David Kraichy of Fort Rouge won his second in a row, defeating Bob Sigurdson of West Kildonan 6-3 in 10 ends.

Kraichy scored two in the eighth and stole a deuce in the ninth to take the commanding 6-3 lead.

Kraichy then ran Sigurdson out of rocks in the 10th to secure the victory. Kraichy will next play Jerry Chudley of Neepawa tomorrow in a rematch of their opening match, where Chudley had won by a 7-6 score.

Along with Kraichy, Scott Madams of Fort Rouge, Jared Kolomaya of Stonewall, Mark Lukowich of West Kildonan, and Scott Ramsay of Granite all avoided elimination and advanced on the B side with wins Thursday evening.

The 8:30 a.m. draw on Friday will consist of the A-side qualifier games.

Jeff Stoughton will take on Dave Elias, while Mike McEwen will play Dennis Bohn.
Rob Fowler meanwhile, will play Sean Grassie, while Terry McNamee will take on Steen Sigurdson.
