The exceptional efforts of three members of the NACI Tigers varsity girls basketball team have been noticed by Basketball Manitoba.

Lina Gordon, Jayme Kulbacki and Danielle Hanke have been selected for the 2016 A-AAA provincial all-star game. Coaches Darren Roe and Jody Jury will also participate, as they, along with Jeff Maxwell of Elton Collegiate will coach the team. Also selected from Elton was player Isabelle King.

Coach Darren Roe said that it’s wonderful to see NACI and its players’ efforts recognized in this manner.

“I think it great for us to have three players on the roster for the all-start game,” said Roe. “And for Jody [Jury] and myself to have the opportunity to coach them one last time as well, it’s just a great honour.”

For senior Danielle Hanke, she noted that being recognized like this is tremendous.

“It’s quite a big honour to be asked to participate in the all-star game,” said Hanke. “It’s going to be a lot of fun, not only to play with my teammates one last time, but also to play side by side with some of the great competitors we’ve competed against for years.”

Lina Gordon said that she was very proud to be representing both the school and community at the event, but added the support from the coaches and her fellow teammates made all of this possible.

Comments from Jayme Kulbacki and Jody Jury could not be gathered before the Neepawa Press publication deadline.

As for the weekend’s festivities, the day features the boys and girls A - AAA and AAAA graduating all-star games and a banquet to announce and present the Players of the Year, All-Manitoba Teams, Coaches of the Year and other special recognition awards.

The A-AAA varsity girl’s game has been scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, Apr. 16, at St. Paul High School in Winnipeg. The All-Manitoba Banquet will then be held at the Victoria Inn starting at 2:00 pm.
