Following an open house fun time at Rivers Curling Club, the curling schedule has been determined. Some 40 curlers and spectators enjoyed the Nov. 1 evening at Riverdale Community Centre. Ice had been poured by volunteers; the duty is now regularly carried out by Brett Esplin of Rapid City.

There are 13 men’s rinks entered (the same number as last year), playing two draws on Monday evening. In women’s play there are seven rinks which curl Wednesday evening and six more on Monday afternoon. Eight senior rinks are reported and eight junior rinks. There weren’t enough entries to form a mixed league.

Brian English is the contact person for a junior super league in competitive curling, Grades 4-8, playing Tuesday evening in Brandon. Quinn Robins is following this competition. There is a Northwest Super League of rink members, aged 50+. They curl Thursday evenings in various communities; Clayton Robins is the contact person for this competition.

Norman Short, who was recently elected club president succeeding Grant Gill, announced the Golden Gals zone playoffs will be held in Rivers on Nov. 28. Winners will advance to provincial play March 9-12; both competitions will be held in Rivers.

Upcoming bonspiels include Rivers Legion on Nov. 22, men Jan. 18-19 and women Jan. 23-25.
