Olympic pairs figure skater Paige Lawrence has decided to take a year off from the competitive side of the sport.

The Virden-based skater told the Brandon Sun's Chris Jaster that after her partner, Rudi Swiegers, opted to take a year off, she had difficulty finding a new partner for the upcoming season.

Because of this, Lawrence, 24, felt it was best to not take part in competitive skating for the upcoming season.

She says she’s going to wait until next spring and hopefully at that time, she’ll be able to find a suitable partner to skate with.

Lawrence and Swiegers skated for Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
