Neepawa Natives netminder Davy Fisher says he's hoping to begin skating early next week after suffering a concussion recently.

The injury happened near the end of the first period of the Sept. 12 MJHL pre-season contest against the Portage Terriers.

"I don't remember a lot of what happened but a forward driving the net hit me and knocked my helmet up and I hit the back of my head on the ice," Fisher told myWestman.ca on Friday.

Fisher says he's hoping to get back on the ice on Monday if he's symptom free.

Consider the concussion as more bad luck for the soon-to-be 19-year-old who was just beginning to get back to his old self after dealing with a pelvic tilt injury which forced him to miss several games last year with Neepawa.

To help fill the void, Tyson Verhelst, a rookie netminder from Brandon who was selected in the third round of the 2012 MJHL Bantam Draft by Neepawa, remains on the Natives roster and will replace Fisher as one of the two goaltenders on the club for the time being.
