Avid fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts will soon be able to purchase a speciality Fish Futures trailer licence plate, Justice Minister Andrew Swan, minister responsible for Manitoba Public Insurance, announced on Thursday.

The new specialty plate will display the Fish Futures' logo.

"Fish Futures is committed to increasing public awareness of the value of Manitoba's freshwater fisheries," said Swan.  "This new plate will help increase that awareness as well as provide money for valuable conservation programs."

Fish Futures Inc., a non-profit organization, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.  The Fish Futures' trailer plate, available Thursday, May 9, will cost $70 with $30 going directly to programs aimed at habitat preservation, development of research projects and public education.

"The release of this specialty plate is a wonderful way to help us celebrate our 25th anniversary and to enhance our profile," said Jerry Kruczek, president, Fish Futures.  "Sales of the specialty plate also provides additional funding for our programs.  This is an incredible way to celebrate our past and kick start us into the future."

There are about 2,500 members of Fish Futures in addition to nearly 200,000 Manitobans who are holders of fishing licences.
