The following is a media bulletin from the Manitoba Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, issued on Monday:

In 2012, a variety of domestic pets were removed from a property in the RM of Lakeview due to concerns for their care and well-being.

On Dec. 28, a justice order was issued to the owners of the animals restricting them from owning animals for three years.  Under law, any animals owned, possessed or controlled by the owners at the time the order was made become property of the Crown.

On Monday, Jan. 14, the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer completed the process of capturing and seizing horses belonging to the same owners and considered by the municipality to be at large.

Ten horses are now under the care of the chief veterinary officer (CVO).  The time limit for a notice of objection to the seizure of the horses expired on Jan. 21.  Any issues relating to an appeal that has been received now need to be resolved before further action can be taken.

Anyone who suspects any animal is lacking adequate food, water, shelter or medical attention, is encouraged to contact the Animal Care Line at 1-204-945-8000.  All calls will be kept confidential and all calls will be investigated.
