By: Kate Jackman-Atkinson myWestman.ca Following a massive flood two years ago, the board of the Eden Rink was faced with a choice, completely rebuild or abandon the building. They decided to rebuild.
Five inches of rain in late spring of 2009 flooded the entire building and board chair Tim Wiebe said that since then, they’ve totally rebuilt the building. He adds that there is still some work to be finished on the hall though. The rink is open to anyone from the community and as well as a public skate, it also has an active rec. hockey program. Wiebe said they are open to adding programming as demand dictates. Wiebe said they are also looking at offering fun events such as a broomball game organized for early March. The game will see Kelwood face off against Glenella and Wiebe said they are hoping to bring new residents to the area out to watch and maybe generate enough support for the game in Eden. Even with the competition of the renovations, Wiebe said they are looking at other possible projects which would increase usage of the rink. |
