Brandon University men’s volleyball head coach Russ Paddock announced that Stelio De Roco will be presenting four sessions at the sixth annual Bobcat Volleyball Coaches Summit on September 24.
De Rocco, a Level four certified coach, was the head coach of the Australian men’s national team at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. He later coached Team Canada from 2001-2006 with the team being consistently ranked in the top 10 in the world. Since 2006 he has coached professionally in Italy and Romania capturing a number of league and cup championships. Prior to 1996, De Rocco played with Team Canada from 1977-1980. He also played professionally in Italy from 1980-1988. In 1985, Stelio was named top player in the Italian League. His coaching career began in Division 1 in Italy in 1990 where he coached Montichiari to two European championships. “Stelio has incredible coaching experience so it goes without saying that the coaching summit received a big boost with his commitment to participate” said Paddock. “We already had Selkirk Royals coach Jim Schreyer as a feature presenter so this is very exciting news for volleyball coaches at any level looking for a professional development opportunity”. Jim Schreyer has multiple provincial high school championships, club- level national championships and a CIS championship with the Manitoba Bisons in 2000 to his credit. He has been named MHSAA coach of the year, Manitoba Coaches Association coach of the year, Manitoba Volleyball Association coach of the year and Volleyball Canada Coach of the year. The Bobcats Volleyball Coaching Summit is a one-day conference designed to provide coaching tips and techniques with the goal of improving the quality of the sport at the grass-roots level.
