Brandon's Helwer assigned critic role in Manitoba PC party

Manitoba PC Leader Hugh McFadyen assigned new critic roles to the members of the Manitoba PC caucus. The new critic assignments  will allow the party’s five new MLAs to make an important contribution to the efforts of Manitoba’s official opposition, while more experienced members of caucus continue to focus on established responsibilities.

On Dec. 8, about 15 Neepawa area residents took part in a public consultation session as part of the Brandon University Medical Education Study. Those in attendance talked about the present state of rural medicine in the area and shared their thoughts about ways it could be improved.

Neepawa mayor Ron Forsman resigns

Ron Forsman has resigned as mayor of Neepawa.

Elected in the fall of 2010, Forsman released a short press release on Monday stating, "I regret that I cannot fulfill my obligations and my vision for the Town of Neepawa that so many of you were so supportive of. I thank you for the opportunity to have served as mayor. The current circumstances have negatively impacted my health and well being. I therefore submit my resignation as Mayor of the Town of Neepawa."

Changes to pension law

Natives fall to Wolverines, Blues

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Neepawa Natives suffered two losses over the weekend.

On Friday, the Natives lost 3-1 to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in Neepawa.

After the Natives took a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, the Wolverines stormed back with two goals in the second and one tally in the third to grab the win.

Cody Hoy scored the lone goal for Neepawa, while Ashley Howie netted two goals and an assist for the Wolverines. Pierre Landry netted the other goal for Waywayseecappo.

Riley Feser took the loss in net for Neepawa, making 36 saves, while Cory Simons got the win between the pipes for the Wolverines, stopping 25 of 26 shots.

On Sunday, the Natives suffered a 5-2 defeat by the hands of the Blues in Winnipeg.

The Natives found themselves down 3-0 after one period of play and were not able to recover after the two teams traded goals in the second and third periods.

Cody Hoy and Sam Prpich scored the two goals for Neepawa, while Derek Gingera scored twice for the Blues. Jake Heisinger, Dustin Pearson and Warren Callis scored the other goals for Winnipeg.

Riley Feser took the loss in net for Neepawa, stopping 32 of 37 shots, while Isiah Plett got the win between the pipes for Winnipeg, making 32 saves.

With the two losses over the weekend, the Natives sit with a 7-26-2 record and remain in last place in the Sher-Wood Division.

Exchange students enjoying Neepawa

On Sept. 3, high school students Mathilde Raulier and Jacob Laprise arrived in Neepawa from their homes in Quebec to take part of a student exchange. Three months later, they are preparing to go home after making lots of new friends, trying new experiences and improving their English.
