The Brandon Wheat Kings will be well represented on the Team West squad that will compete at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge later this year in Quebec.
Jayce Hawryluk, 16, a rookie with the Wheat Kings and prospect Ryley Lindgren were chosen to the team, which is comprised annually of players from Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
A second round draft choice of the Wheat Kings in the 2011 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, Hawryluk is off to a solid start with Brandon. Entering this weekend's home-and-home series with the Prince Albert Raiders, the 5-foot-9, 177 pound Roblin product has six goals and 14 points in 20 games.
Lindgren meanwhile is currently skating with the Winnipeg AAA Midget Thrashers. In 16 games this season, the 5-foot-10, 160 pound native of East St. Paul has 10 goals and 22 points. He also has one assist in two games with the Wheat Kings. He was selected in the fifth round (96th overall) in last year's WHL Bantam Draft.
Don MacGillivray, currently of the Winnipeg Blues, will lead Team West behind the bench along with assistant coaches David Anning, who is currently an assistant with the Wheat Kings and Malcolm Cameron of the Regina Pats.
Hawryluk, Lindgren and Team West will face Slovakia in a pre-tournament exhibition game on Dec. 28, before facing off against Sweden on Dec. 29 in their opening game.
