The primary drivers pushing values higher are increasing concerns about dryness in South America, particularly its impact on their corn and soybean crops, along with better outside markets, as concerns about the broader macroeconomic conditions have temporarily quieted down.

It is now possible to manage the downside risk on new-crop cereal crops by forward contracting for 2012/13 delivery.

In exercising its monopoly powers, CWB had a role in almost every commercial transaction involved in moving grain between producers and end users of Prairie crops.
