Wetlands are important

Manitoba has some of the finest wetlands in Canada and more than 7,000 acres across the province are protected by Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). Wetlands are considered to be among the most important breeding and staging grounds for waterfowl in North America. Given the importance of wetlands to Manitoba and its citizens, NCC Manitoba has placed a great deal of emphasis on the securement of wetlands to ensure the protection of this critically important habitat and the continued use of this environment by the wide range of water fowl throughout Manitoba.

Crib player honoured

Shorty Phillips missed cribbage on Thursday, Feb. 26 for the first time in nine years — he and his wife Liz were  busy packing for a move to Brandon. Crib chairman Ken Young had requested Shorty find time to attend before the games started, in order to present a gift card of good wishes from fellow players to him and his wife. In his expression of thanks, Shorty promised they would keep in touch.

Shingling project in July

There has been concern from a few local supporters of Rivers Legion Branch No. 75’s fundraising why there hasn’t been a visible start made on its shingling project. The branch began plans for shingling in late 2013 with a visit from a government engineer who made a thorough inspection of the hall’s interior and exterior. It was at a time when the outgoing president, Dave Oakey, was succeeded by Darryl Childerhose.

Neepawa Home Hardware building has a long history

Home Hardware has been in Neepawa for a long time. Prior to 1976, the Neepawa Furniture Centre, which was owned by Roy and Joan McGillivray, had the Link Hardware dealership. Link phased out in 1976 and became part of Home Hardware in 1981 and the Neepawa Furniture Centre was the Home Hardware outlet for this area until 1984.

Another successful showcase for NACTV

Representatives with NACTV are very pleased with the response from its annual Showcase. The event was held on Thursday, Feb. 26 at the Roxy Theatre and featured a wide variety of performers helping to raise money for the local access channel.
