On June 11, the Beautiful Plains Community Foundation distributed this year’s grants at a luncheon. A total of $141,965 was given out in Community Fund and Designated fund grants. Community Fund grants totalling $56,661 were given to 14 area organizations.
More shelter for Rivers

Because of the harsh 2014 winter, Rivers Train Station Restoration Committee applied to Manitoba Hydro Forest Enhancement Program to replace some of the trees which did not survive. The committee was fortunate to receive funding of $14,233.07 to replace the various trees within the community, inclusive of Rivers Cemetery and Millennium Park. This work was completed by Alternative Landscaping; the bottom photo shows the new silver maples planted in the northwest corner of the cemetery.

The Grade 6 class at Rivers Elementary School has spent this school year volunteering, sharing and learning at Riverdale Personal Care Home (PCH). Those biweekly visits have culminated in unique relationships between youth and seniors, most notably in that the students became the teachers. When they brought the school’s iPads, residents were initially reluctant to touch them, but after the pupils demonstrated how to play games, attitudes of the elderly began to change — they embraced the technology.
Film with Neepawa connection arrives at the Roxy

The Amityville Playhouse movie will be shown at The Roxy Theatre, Neepawa on June 19-21. The red carpet will be spread out to welcome the local and area stars at the first showing on Friday, June 19th. The Roxy Theatre was the setting for this movie.

Less than one-third of its current membership attended the recent meeting of Rivers and District Chamber of Commerce, but at least those 10 members present at the May 27 gathering constituted a quorum.
