On Monday, Dec. 12 the first ever public showing of artwork created by a group from Touchwood Park was opened in the Manawaka Gallery. The teacher, Gerry Oliver, who herself is a prominent artist, has been involved in the workshops for nearly four years.

The Town of Neepawa hosted a grant writing workshop at the town office board room on Dec. 7, with four people representing different local non-profit groups in attendance.

Ducks Unlimited banquet a success

Another great Ducks Unlimited Canada event was held in Neepawa on Nov. 19. The committee decided that for this year, there was a need to move to a larger venue in hopes of attracting more people.  It worked, as there were close to 200 attendees at the Yellowhead Centre. The financial numbers are still being calculated but it is expected that the event did even better than last year.

Emotional stories of immigrant life

Author Karen Emilson visited the Neepawa Library on Dec. 1, to promote her first work of fiction, Be Still the Water. The story is based loosely on historical events in the Lake Manitoba community of Siglunes. Filled with emotional stories and hardships of the early 20th century, the story is built around an immigrant Icelandic family who struggled to make a new life in a new country.
