We are the Grade 12 IDS (Interdisciplinary Studies in Science) class at Rivers Collegiate and we are planning to organize a food drive. Our goal during this project is to collect a boat load of food for Riverdale Harvest. The Grade 10 outdoor ed class will also be assisting us in the collection of non-perishable food items.

As a part of organizing the food drive, we have hung posters in town and brought in a canoe! Our collection began on Feb. 19 and will conclude on March 19. Later that day (March 19), we will move the canoe across the street to Zion Church, home of Riverdale Harvest.

In Rivers, there are still families that can't put enough food on their table; we would like to change that. Our goal is to help change these circumstances and collect as many non-perishable food items as possible through our food drive. On Tuesday, March 13 we will canvas Oak River, Chimo Beach and Rivers. If you were missed and would like to contribute, you’re more than welcome to drop off non-perishable food items in the canoe in front of the school office. We also visited other classes to tell them about the project and how to get involved. One such way was by participating in a floor hockey game on March 7 at lunch; everyone that wanted to play had to bring a non-perishable food item. Please help us in our final push for the project; donations are accepted for another week.
