Man arrested after standoff in Rapid City (update)

According to reports, the town of Rapid City was under heavy police presence on Friday morning as a woman had been taken to hospital after being found outside a home where police were engaged in a standoff with a man inside -- which has since ended peacefully.

A 34-year-old Rapid City man -- who will not be identified to protect the victim -- was arrested at approximately 10:30 a.m. this morning and will face charges of assault causing bodily harm. Police are continuing to investigate the matter.

The woman is not believed to be seriously hurt and its believed she was involved in a domestic dispute with her partner, which began at around 10 or 11 p.m. yesterday evening. Police arrived on the scene at around 4-4:30 a.m. this morning.

Approximately 10 homes were evacuated by RCMP and the southwest area of the town had been cordoned off.

Reports also state that the school was also closed and was being used as a command post for police.

No children are believed to be involved in the incident.
