Those wishing to get into the spirit of Christmas will have a chance to experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the season on Sun., Nov. 27 at ArtsForward.

The Whitemud Comedy Company and the Dickens Singers are performing their annual dramatic reading, with musical interludes, of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

Rrain Prior, director of Programming at ArtsForward, says the event has been happening for the last five years and that people always seem to enjoy it. Usually, she notes, between 50 and 80 people show up to enjoy the festivities.

“The Whitemud Comedy Company has organized this. They get members of the group and they read portions of the play. And in between each of the 10 sections, we have a musical group who does acapella Victorian Christmas carols,” Prior explains. “It really kind of feels like it kicks off the Christmas season. I mean, everyone knows A Christmas Carol, right?”

Prior says she’s hoping people will attend to take part not just in the wonderful programming but also to help support a good cause.

All of the admission fee goes to the Salvation Army for the Christmas hampers, explains Prior.

Refreshments will also be on hand for people to enjoy, including wassail and dainties.

“It’s such a nice time,” Prior enthuses. “It’s wonderful music, wonderful reading, and it really just gets you in the Christmas spirit.”
