Directors of Rivers and Area Community Foundation

Thanks to a bequest from Bernard and Iola Goekoop, Rivers & Area Community Foundation (RACF) was formed in 2009 and continues to support organizations and projects in the Riverdale area. The community foundation movement began in Canada in 1921, right here in Manitoba with the formation of The Winnipeg Foundation. That movement has now grown to 54 community foundations across Manitoba. Donations to a community foundation are pooled and permanently invested; the original gifts are never spent. Every year these investments generate money that is distributed to support local charitable needs.

This year RACF received grant applications requesting a total of $33,400; we were able to grant $14,000 to the following: Rivers Skating Club, Prairie Crocus Regional Library, Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Razzamatazz Dance Club, $1,500 each; Clack Family Heritage Museum, Rivers Collegiate, $1,250; Rivers Comets Baseball Club, $2,000; Rivers Minor Hockey, $1,000; Riverdale Community Daycare, $2,500.

In future editions of Rivers Banner, watch for articles profiling each of these projects. This is your money at work in the community.

For an opportunity to help fund future projects, consider donating during the Endow Manitoba 24-hour giving challenge on Nov. 19. Watch next week’s issue for details on how you can get involved.
