Submitted photo. In addition to being in the gallery of the Legislature while MLA Eileen Clarke highlighted the Bjarnarson children’s commitment to hard work and giving back to their community, the family also got to visit STARS’ Winnipeg base on Oct. 17. While there, they got to meet the crew and see the equipment used to stabilize and transport patients.

The Honourable Eileen Clarke, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Agassiz and Minister of Indigenous and Municipal Relations, celebrated the hard work and philanthropy of the Bjarnarson family, of Gladstone, and highlighted the critical work being undertaken by the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) program in Manitoba.

It is not new for Gladstone area residents Randy and Shelley Bjarnarson and their three children, Broddi, Tristinn, and Sveinna to donate to local organizations close to their heart and home. The three children, aged 14, 11 and 8, are active members of the local 4-H club and each year, they sell their steer and donate a portion of those sales to a local club, organization or project in their community.

In the past, they have donated to important community projects, including walking paths and park benches, Handi Transit, firefighters and a green space area.  This year, the children have chosen to make their donation to the STARS program. Although STARS is not based in their community, it certainly is close to their heart, having provided emergency care to their region and touched the lives of people they know.

Minister Clarke highlighted the Bjarnarson children’s commitment to hard work and giving back to their community in a Member’s Statement to the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, with members of the STARS program and the Bjarnarson family seated in the galleries. The family’s day also included a visit to the STARS Winnipeg base, where they were afforded a first-hand look at the work STARS does to provide vital services for Manitobans in need.
