The combination of a stingy defence and impressive ground game helped keep the Neepawa Tigers unbeaten as the team edged the Virden Golden Bears 8-7 in Rural Manitoba Football League play.

Tigers running back Taine Middleton had a huge day, rushing for 124 yards on 12 carries, including a 66-yard touchdown run. Middleton added one reception for 10 yards. Will Rainka (13 carries for 56 yards), Jayvee Posadas (3-for-23), Dylan Oshanyk (5-for-33) and Dillan Neufeld (7-for 30), also contributed to the impressive ground attack, helping the Tigers to accumulate a total of 266 yards rushing.

Neepawa’s defence also came up big on the day, keeping the usually potent Virden Golden Bears offence on its heels all day. Dillan Neufeld notched eight tackles on the day, while Will Birnie added five tackles and a sack.

With the victory, the Neepawa Tigers improved their Rural Manitoba Football League regular season record to 2-0. The next home game for the team will be on Friday, Sept. 23, starting at 4:30 p.m.
