Photos by Kira Paterson. At the Rotary lunch on Wednesday, Aug. 10, Nikki Tomoniko was the featured guest, making a presentation about her year in Switzerland on Rotary exchange. Her presentation was a “how to” guide on making the most of a Rotary exchange and the things she discovered while she was on hers. The presentation was broken into a step-by-step process, including sections on the decision, the arrival, what it’s like to live with a host family, what school is like, how to get involved in programs, making friends and getting good meals from the Rotary meetings.

After Nikki Tomoniko’s presentation, Amandine Polain, who came here from Belgium on a Rotary exchange last year and is back for a visit this summer, gave an update on how her life has been since her exchange. She told the club that she is going to university to take medicine and hopes to do some more travelling around Europe the coming year.

Lions Club member Tom Borsa attended the Rotary meeting last week to present the Rotary’s exchange student, Nikki Tomoniko, with a scholarship for $2,000 on behalf of the Lions Club. The scholarship is given to a student who has displayed exceptional academic achievement, community involvement, citizenship and involvement and achievement in sports. Nikki is going to the University of Manitoba this fall and taking their University 1 program, so this scholarship can help cover some of the costs of her school.
