Rivers Police Service has kicked off our annual Use Your Head campaign. This is a program that encourages elementary students to wear bike helmets. Police will be stopping elementary aged children, if they are observed wearing a helmet, and their name will be entered into  a draw for a bike, donated by Canadian Tire. Auxiliary Constable Dallas Scott has once again worked hard at putting together a number of sponsors which include Canadian Tire, McDonald’s, Robins Doughnuts and Old Dutch.

April had 59 calls for service, nine of them were Criminal Code violations; five in property damage and one each of break and enter, theft under $5,000, escaping/resisting/obstruction and other crimes such as breaches, public mischief, harassing phone calls, etc.

One impaired driving ticket was was issued last month and 10 other Highway Traffic Act offences such as speeding, unregistered vehicle, no licence, etc. were observed. Police also issued the first off road vehicle ticket of 2016 last month. One accident was reported to police; total traffic statistics for April were 13.

Liquor and Gaming Control Act continues to be a quiet category for Rivers Police Service with no charges yet this year. There were two calls made last month for the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act or breach of peace.

Bylaws were enforced five times in April, two for nuisance and three for animal control; police also monitor the burning and traffic bylaws.

Our assistance to the public last month was done five times; assisting other agencies was done three times. We also had two calls to the former RM of Daly area.

Under miscellaneous statistics police were called to three noisy parties/disturbances, twice for mental health, alarms and lost property, and once each for community relations, a missing person (located), insecure premise and one trespassing. There were seven other miscellaneous calls, which include unfounded complaints.
