Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23 have requested assistance from Town Council with some sewer line issues. The Legion building, located on Brown Avenue, has been dealing with tree roots congesting the flow of the line. The existing by-laws requires the property owner to cover the cost of root clearance. The Legion, however, said that the trees thought to be causing the issue are on town property. They have asked the Town of Neepawa to examine the line and potentially cover the cost of clearing it. Council will examine the problem and see what can be done to alleviate the situation.

Waste and recycling review

The Town of Neepawa is planning a comprehensive review of its solid waste collection and recycling program. Included in the review will be the methods of collection, disposal, scheduling and the resources required to perform the work. Other aspects of the program will also be evaluated. The review is to be led by administration with the assistance of the Public Works and Infrastructure and Finance and Administration standing committees of council.

Donation and support for skate park proposal

The Neepawa Ministerial Association has donated $100 to the potential construction of a new skate park. The Leisure Services department would like to move the existing park, which is located behind the RCMP building, to the Flats. Community fundraising and volunteer support is needed however, to get the project moving forward. In a letter to the Town Council, the Association noted that they believed that providing safe and reliable activities to the community’s youth was very important.

Snow removal deal

The Town of Neepawa and Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation have agreed to a snow removal deal. MIT pays the Town a flat rate of $61.42 per centimetre to remove snow from sections of Highway 16 that are near and pass through the community.
