Neepawa Council Notes- Nov. 17/15

Neepawa Town Council received 22 proposals from engineering companies who want to design the new fire hall.

The least expensive proposal, from Calnistky Associates Architects Inc., at $76,500 was accepted. Town staff and the fire department will meet with the architect in the hope of getting a design proposal ready over the winter. The new fire hall is scheduled to be built on the former CN property (west of Freezerco) on Mill Street. A new fire hall has been on the Town of Neepawa capital plan for nearly 20 years as the current fire hall is in tough shape.

Council passed a resolution in support of an application by Evergreen Environmental for a gasification project. Gasification “burns” garbage and the resulting heat  is used to heat buildings or generate steam to generate electricity.

Kinsmen Seniors Housing Inc. was refunded their costs to re-zone  and amend the development plan for the former East View Lodge site.  Plans did not work out for housing at that site and so the Town has refunded the group their out of pocket expenses. The EVL site had been turned over to the Town of Neepawa for $1 by the Province of Manitoba on the condition that seniors’ affordable housing be built. If a project is not forthcoming, the province, under the agreement, may sell the land.

A sub-division was approved to get the Neepawa Resource Centre on its own piece of land. There are problems with the site and surrounding area, as lane closures and sub-divisions were not completed properly in the 1970s and now have to be attended to before the Resource Centre can be sold.

The Town of Neepawa has had their application for revised water rates go in to the Public Utility Board (PUB). There will be ads in the Neepawa Press on Dec. 1 and 8, 2015 outlining the proposed changes. The PUB application has been ongoing since 2011.
