Fire Prevention Week is underway in Canada.
This year's theme is "Two Ways Out" which is intended to remind people to have escape plans in place if a fire breaks out.
Manitobans are reminded of the importance of developing and practising a family fire escape plan that ensures they have two ways to leave their home, Family Services and Labour Minister Jennifer Howard, minister responsible for the Office of the Fire Commissioner, stated last week in a release.
"Fire safety is a lifelong habit we'd like to see begin at home," said Howard. "Manitoba fire department statistics show that in 2010, 94 per cent of fire fatalities and 78 per cent of fire injuries occurred in the home, and we encourage people to take a few minutes to protect themselves and their families."
Fire Prevention Week 2012 began on Sunday and will end on Saturday.
