The Nov. 17 meeting of Rivers Legion was called to order with nine members present.  The first order of business was to swear in the new executive: Comrade Darryl Childerhose is the new president; Comrade Ken Young first vice; Comrade R. Witt second vice.

The Remembrance Day service was well attended and everything ran smoothly in the new location.  There have been a number of very positive comments about the ceremony this year.  The loss of two soldiers on Canadian soil this year is bringing a new sense of patriotism and appreciation of those who serve our country in the military, RCMP and emergency services. Two people indicated they didn’t think it was necessary to read out all the names of people and businesses that bought crosses; some consideration will be given to simply putting a list in the program next year, and having the poppy chairman give a general thank you to all contributors.

Posters and poems for the annual contest are in and will be judged and sent on by Nov. 28. A new feature this year came from the elementary school; students from Grades 1 and 2 wanted to participate so they made postcards for veterans. These will be put up in the clubroom to be seen by our vets.

A Grey Cup party will take place on Nov. 30 with pot luck hors d’oeuvres; next year we hope Grey Cup will involve the Blue Bombers.  The clubroom will be closed to the public on Dec. 6 because of the small business Christmas party. There is change for Levee Day this year; a specific fee will be charged (instead of donations) to cover the lunch we provide.

The meeting closed with the usual ceremony.
