Community Centre workmen

Navi Gill has been facility manager of Riverdale Community Centre since Oct. 8. He lives in Brandon where he had previous management experience at YMCA for five years.

His main duty at Riverdale is to make better use of the space and to organize the rink schedule. Some exterior work involves the clean-up of crushed rock that borders the west side of the building and that is being scattered on the sidewalk and which causes a hazard for foot and wheelchair traffic. Navi is involved in the study of available grant money for some interior finishing to the building. He plans and oversees recreation activities such as fitness exercises, dance practice, baby skills, public skating, flu clinics and hockey.

Brian Mitchell has been caretaker/ice maker at the community centre long enough to be acquainted by name with many who come and go for ice sports. Brian’s 2 p.m. to midnight shift is filled with cleaning four large washrooms and four small ones, as well as the spacious common areas. Rivers town council is in the process of hiring a helper soon.

The upstairs kitchen is open only for large events — hockey tournaments or curling bonspiels. It is operated by parent volunteers on a roster system.
