On Tuesday at about 6:00 p.m., Yellowhead RCMP, as well as local emergency services from Birtle and Shaol Lake, were dispatched to the scene of a semi-trailer fire on Highway 16, approximately 15 kilometres west of Shoal Lake.

The semi was hauling anhydrous ammonia, and it was noticed that there was a fire on the trailer. The semi driver was able to safely pull off to the side of the road and detach from the trailer. There were no injuries in this incident.

Local fire and emergency services were able to safely put the fire out. The highway was closed for a period of time for the fire crews to cool the trailer and make sure that there were no leaks. The highway was re-opened at 7:20 p.m.

Yellowhead RCMP is investigating the cause of the fire.
