A minor plane crash happened at the Russell Airport on Sunday.

When RCMP arrived at the scene, the plane had been overturned approximately a half kilometre south of the runway.

The three people who were on board the plane – a 61-year-old male pilot and two female passengers (56 and 83 years old) were not seriously injured and were taken to a local hospital.

According to reports, the plane apparently had difficulty during takeoff, which played a part in the crash.

The RCMP have since wrapped up their investigation and have stated that the incident is not criminal in nature.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has taken over the investigation.
