Neepawa council highlights

At the May 6 Neepawa council meeting, it was reported that the Neepawa Yellowhead Centre board had received an engineering report from Boge and Boge engineers. The report reviewed all the mechanical, structural and roofing aspects of the centre. The upgrades to bring the centre up to code are estimated at $2.8 million and the upgrades can be staged out over a number of years.

The following are other highlights from the meeting. . .

•Council approved the provision for a future road allowance on property owned by Wendy and Monty Simon.

•The 2014 Town of Neepawa budget passed second and third reading.

•Council approved the Lily Festival parade route, being the same route as previous years.

•Council cancelled the regular scheduled meeting for July 1 due to the Canada Day holiday.

•Council approved a variation to lower the required number of parking spaces to 42 resident spots and 10 visitor spots for the proposed seniors housing complex on the former East View Lodge site.

•Council approved the master plan for the CN lands as prepared by MMM group and asked the Neepawa and Area Planning District to initiate changes to the development plan.

•Council discussed a request from Prairie Mountain Regional Health for a contribution to an expansion of the Brandon Hospital. The request was filed for consideration in next year’s budget.

•Council considered a request for increased funding for the Neepawa Natives Hockey team. They also considered the advisability and legality of accepting donations on the teams behalf. Both decisions were set aside pending further consideration.

•Council approved the wage schedule for the swimming pool employees for the next three years.
