Several residents from the town of Birtle and surrounding areas are being forced to evacuate their homes due to high flood water.

The embankment holding water destined for Birdtail Creek is in rough shape, which has caused for an evacuation notice for several low-lying homes in Wayway, Birdtail Sioux First Nation and the RMs of Birtle and Rossburn.

As of Sunday, 12 Birtle and area homes, approximately 50 kilometres away from the embankment, have received evacuation notices. Meanwhile, in Wayway, approximately 20 homes were evacuated.

Crews in the area are currently working on the matter.
