The Town of Neepawa Public Works crew discovered a break in the main lift station for Neepawa's sewage system over the weekend.

A small amount of sewage was released over the ground on to town-owned open space until pumps and vacuum trucks could be brought in to correct the situation. Manitoba Conservation has been advised of the situation as well.

The Town of Neepawa issued a release on Monday, stating the town crew has worked hard over the weekend to keep the system functioning in spite of very adverse weather conditions.

A large pump was also brought in and flexible piping has been laid above ground from the lift station to a manhole on Smith Drive. Local traffic may be slowed or impeded by the pipes and pipe crossings that have been laid out.

The release states that repair parts are being sourced but that it will be several days before the station is back in operation. In the meantime, the temporary pump and piping are being monitored continuously.
