ACC announces recipients of annual alumni awards

The Assiniboine Community College Alumni Association announced the recipients of four annual alumni awards that will be presented at the third annual Alumni Advancement Dinner in February.

This year’s recipient of the ACC’s Distinguished Alumni Award, which is presented to an alumnus of the college who has distinguished themselves in both their chosen profession and their community, is Jim Brannan. Born and raised in Brandon, Brannan is a graduate of the Electrical Technology program. Currently, Brannan is the vice-president of contract services for Cando Rail Services, which he has held since 2002.

The Alumni Community Service Award recognizes an alumnus of ACC who has positively impacted the quality of people’s lives through the service of others. This award, which highlights the value placed on community, will be given to Shaun Woodcock, who graduated in 2009 from the Business Administration program. He is currently working as a financial planner with RBC Royal Bank in Brandon.

The ACC Excellence in Teaching Award honours faculty for extraordinary contributions to teaching and the student experience. Kevin Poirier is the recipient of this year's award. Poirier is an instructor in the school of Trades and Technology, teaching students in the piping trades pre-employment and plumbing apprenticeship programs.

The One to Watch Award honours graduates who are 30 years of age or younger at the time of nomination. The award recognizes exceptional achievement and significant contribution to the recipient’s profession and/or community. Ben Myers, who is this year's recipient, graduated from Media Production (now Interactive Media Arts) in 2005 and is currently the project manager and app designer with Robots and Pencils Inc.

All recipients will be recognized on Feb. 20 at the Alumni Advancement Dinner which will be held at The Lady of the Lake in Brandon.
