Manitoba Canola Growers is proud to announce their 2015 scholarship winners. Five $1,000 scholarships have been awarded to deserving high school students across Manitoba. Scholarships are available to students who are from a farm that is a Manitoba Canola Growers member and are planning to attend post secondary education in any field within two years of graduating.

I want to highlight Nikoda Holopina of Rivers, one of our winners. We are sure Rivers and area will be very proud of her for all of her accomplishments! Nikoda plans to attend University of Manitoba’s Asper School commerce program. Students submitted their applications, which were judged by an independent panel, based on academic standing, canola connection, references, essay submission and school and community involvement.

Nikoda lives with her mother Barb and stepfather Raymond Airey on a farm near Oak River. She graduated from Rivers Collegiate with the most awards of any student, collecting five subject awards, four scholarships, three other awards, a bronze medallion from Rolling River School Division, the Governor General’s bronze medal, a citizenship award, the principal’s award for an average of more than 90 per cent, a gold achievement award for combining athletes, academics and school service, was named student of the year and was her class valedictorian.
