Beef Bits - June 12

Rivers 4-H Beef Club hosted its annual rally day on Sunday, June 7. The day started with every member weighing their steers. The steers were then tied in the barns to get them prepared for achievement day. Members then met with one of three clinicians; they rotated groups until each member had visited all three stations. Clinicians were Trevor Peters (grooming), Amy Peters (nutrition) and Wenda and Naomi Best (showmanship).

For lunch, each family brought chili; all members did a taste test and voted on their favourite. Winners of the chili cook-off were the Penner family.

To conclude rally day, all members and leaders did an impromptu speech, after picking a random topic out of a hat. Lots of laughs were shared.

Members’ 4-H books are due June 13. Achievement begins Tuesday, July 7; weigh-in begins at 3 p.m. that day. All animals are to arrive no later than 4 p.m. The club will have a barbecue supper. Members will also participate in the fair day parade on July 8. Every member is to make stall cards for their project animals. Hope we see everyone at Rivers fair as we show our 4-H projects
