Weed Notes - Dec 5

At the end of November Terry and I had the privilege being asked to come to the last RM of Woodworth staff Christmas supper. It was a superb meal and the best company a person could ever ask to be part of; the gesture made a memory we will have forever.

Forced amalgamation being put on municipalities starting Jan.1 will change many areas of municipal operations. I always thought we had freedom from dictatorship in Canada but it looks as though that is not really so; best stop my thoughts for now on this topic.

After the meal there were presentations to various councillors both retiring and active, with all giving a few thoughts of their own at being a part of this superb municipality. With my own retirement coming in May, I was trying to decide whether or not to give a short speech in regards to my working for a number of councillors over my 36 years. A little subtle nudge and guiding words from Terry made the decision quite easy for me! When I was walking to the front Terry overheard someone say, “I hope his story is of a clean nature!” If I had heard that comment I would have mentioned in my speech that that suggestion would cancel out 95 per cent of my stories! I told of a sultry August afternoon in 1979 swimming in Salt Lake south of Lenore with only my birthday suit as attire. A few minutes after I went into the lake, a mother with three children drove in. As a result, I had to stay in the water until after supper when they finally went home!
