The Neepawa Figure Skating Club had a strong start to their competitive season. On Jan. 2, the skaters attended the Virden Fun Skate.
Dimitri Smith received a silver ribbon in the CanSkate Stage 4 event. In the Star 1 event, Kiera Major and Addison Atkey both came home with bronze ribbons. Amber Wahoski earned a silver while Simone Levasseur earned a bronze in the Star 2 event.
In the Star 3 event, Annika Atkey and Cordelia Smith both skated to a silver ribbon while Kyla Wahoski and Kiana Gunnarson-Epp each skated to a bronze ribbon. In the Star 4 Under 13 Flight A event, Karissa Ellis won a silver medal and Jenna Beaumont placed seventh. Brooklyn Chartrand won the gold medal for the Star 4 Under 13 Flight B event.
In the Star 4 Over 13 event, Kara Ellis skated to a bronze medal while Hayley Lindsay placed fifth. The girls had a strong showing in the Pre-Intro Interpretive. In that event, Kara Ellis and Annika Atkey came away with gold medals while Jenna Beaumont, Simone Levasseur and Hayley Lindsay all earned silver medals. Brooklyn Chartrand and Karissa Ellis both earned gold medals in the Intro Interpretive event.
Later in the day, we had two teams compete in the team events. The “Evil Edges”, Amber Wahoski and Cordelia Smith, earned gold in the Star 2 event. The “Chicks with Picks” team of Kyla Wahoski and Kiana Gunnarson-Epp earned bronze in the Star 3 event. All these skaters are coached by Cynthia Chartrand and Kim Smith.
NFSC is now getting ready to host the North and South Westman Regional STARSkate Championships on Saturday, Jan. 23. Be sure to come out to the Yellowhead Centre to watch all our NFSC skaters compete as well as our Beginner 1 synchro team, who will be performing during the opening ceremonies starting at 12:30!
