The Manitoba Agricultural Museum 2021 Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion and Stampede festival will feature Cockshutt Farm Equipment and host the annual convention of the International Cockshutt Club. The 2021 Cockshutt convention will highlight the 75th anniversary of the iconic Cockshutt 30 tractor, the first modern tractor designed and built in Canada. The tractor gained worldwide status for pioneering the use of live hydraulics and Live-Power-Take-Off systems to power attached equipment. A unique 6 oxen hitch is shown pulling a plough in a process called backsetting. This tillage practise, from very early farming days in Canada, involved ploughing and re-ploughing sod to prepare the virgin prairie for seeding.

In a number of accounts of homesteading there is mention of the practice of backsetting which was carried out when breaking sod. Just what backsetting actually involved was unknown to the Interpretation Committee at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum (MAM) until the Committee obtained a book on the history of the Red River Valley.
