There was a great sense of anticipation in the air inside the Neepawa Royal Canadian Legion building on Friday, Feb. 9, as a near capacity crowd eagerly awaited the results of the weekly Chase the Ace (CTA) draw.  And after 47 weeks of build up, that elusive ace of spades was finally tracked down, as Danny Schmidtke of Erickson found the correct card. With just seven cards to choose from, Schmidtke had just a 14.2 per cent chance at finding the ace. Though those odds were long, they were still more than enough for him to uncover the ace and win the big prize of $37,097.

Multiple fatalities in Minnedosa crash

Three people are dead following a multi-vehicle accident just south of Minnedosa on Wednesday, Feb. 14. RCMP have confirmed that the collision took place about five kilometres south of the community on Highway 10 at around 5:25 p.m.

An annual report of Manitoba Telephone System, just issued, reveals a highly satisfactory condition, the most outstanding item being the revenue balance of $143,282.52 for the fiscal year ending Nov. 30, 1937, as compared to $14,739.95 for the previous year. In the list of exchanges, Neepawa stands fifth in the province in telephones, the total being 641 for local and rural.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, 19 grade nine students from Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute (NACI) and their teachers Mr. Gaudet and Mrs. Heschuk left for a week-long adventure to Mont Laurier, in northwest Québec. Their trip was part of the two-week Experiences Canada program which is a reciprocal home-stay exchange.
