Tuesday, March 8, 1938
The local Pee Wee hockey team travelled to Gladstone on Saturday to put on an exhibition game at the carnival held there that night. The boys had a glorious outing and came home victorious winning 4-2. Raymond Baroni was the scoring star on the local squad, being responsible for three counters, while Lloyd Whiteman made the fourth click.

Science students saving soup

We are the Grade 12 IDS (Interdisciplinary Studies in Science) class at Rivers Collegiate and we are planning to organize a food drive. Our goal during this project is to collect a boat load of food for Riverdale Harvest. The Grade 10 outdoor ed class will also be assisting us in the collection of non-perishable food items.

A conversation with a good friend started a deeper introspection of one of the theories I embrace. You know the old illustration used to remind us that none of us are indispensable; place your hand in a body of water, remove, and see that all is the same even without your presence? I don’t agree. The moment my/your hand touches the water there is an irreversible change in the liquid. Hence, no matter how brief our presence is in any given situation, we have generated a change.

This week’s recipe is dedicated to a special person that was taken away suddenly in a tragic accident. Mary Anne Nylen was a true friend who made time for people. She shared her baking, energy and wonderfully positive attitude towards life with everyone. Her beautiful smile and laughter will be sadly missed. Mary Anne hooked me on to spelt. She gave me this recipe after I tasted her delicious cookies this winter.
