As I write these words, the victims of the Toronto tragedy have finally been identified. Of the 10 who were killed in this incident, eight were women, two were men. The oldest was a 94-year-old grandmother. The two youngest were international students—both were 22.

This coming weekend the mothers are to be treated in a very special way. Maybe a very pretty card expressing love, or some flowers as a token of our love, or maybe even some chocolates. We celebrate and remember all the special times she spent with us when growing up.

As I write these words, the investigation into the recent Toronto killings is on-going. A 25 year old male suspect has been arrested and charged with 10 counts of first degree and 13 counts of attempted murder. A 14th charge, police say, may be laid soon.

My heart is troubled. We have lost many lives this past month through accidents and willful destruction. And with many others I say “why?” Young people’s lives were cut short. Moms and Dads lost part of their family. It is heartbreaking. Some are still in hospital and may be scarred for life.
