The fate of newspapers is a much discussed topic these days. Strangely enough, it’s debated mostly in newspapers, which is ironic on two fronts. Why is the topic in the papers so often if, as many say, newspapers are sliding away? Second, why do newspapers concentrate so much on their own demise?

It’s barely 60 days until the April 19 Manitoba election. The legislature is scheduled to sit for a few days in between. Many cabinet ministers and sitting MLAs (mostly on the government side) aren’t going to run again. It looks like there could be a change in government.

There comes a time in every person’s life where they have to look after themselves. It happens every day. We set aside our work, our public obligations and we feed ourselves, we sleep, we look after the personal stuff. If we don’t, it makes for a very unhealthy life.

I grew up on a city lot in urban Canada. Neither of my parents grew up on farms and while my parents enjoyed flowers, gardening wasn’t a hobby for either of them. As far as I knew, food came from the grocery store.
