My perspective - Levelling the field

Earlier this month, the federal government gave Canadian businesses an early Christmas present.  On Dec. 9, Finance minister Bill Morneau announced plans to tax tech giants on the revenue earned by their Canadian operations. The move is something many Canadian companies have been calling for and will help create a more level playing field.

Thank you Santa! Thank you for this most unexpected Christmas gift; the gift of federal Conservative leader Andrew Scheer stepping down. The announcement on Thursday, Dec. 12 of Scheer’s resignation came as a complete shock to me. But while I was surprised by the decision, I can’t say that it bothered me all that much, because, quite honestly Andrew Scheer never connected with me as a voter. I was not alone in that disconnect, as it was Scheer’s inability to resonate with some voters that ultimately led to his undoing. Well,… that and the alleged secret slush fund for his kids’ tuition,… but mostly the disconnect.

Pregnancy, birth and infant care are fraught with challenges, ones both expected and unexpected. Next year, expectant parents in the Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) region will have one less resource to help them navigate this life-changing experience. Going forward, PMH has decided to discontinue their general, group prenatal classes. Instead, they are recommending families contact their Public Health office for an individualized assessment and access to resources.

The familiar strains of this hymn of the Christian church is well known around the world. The words and music have implored millions of listeners to come and adore the Baby Jesus and to follow him. The name Jesus means “saviour”or “rescuer”.
