Recording two shutouts in three games, Winkler Flyers’ netminder Cole Weaver has been named this week’s Recycle Everywhere MJHL Player of the Week. Weaver was outstanding in helping the Flyers win three games, while recording an incredible GAA of 0.33 over that span.

Former Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute student Daniel Heschuk has been named the University of Manitoba’s Athlete of the Week. Heschuk is a part of the U of M cross country running team and was singled out for his performance at the 2016 CIS Cross Country Championship in Quebec City, held on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Bison men’s team finished the race in 12th overall place (fourth in Canada West) – an improvement from last year’s 14th overall placing.

Dauphin tops Neepawa in Inter-zone volleyball
Some outstanding serving helped to lift the Dauphin Clippers to a straight sets victory (25-11, 25-19, 25-7) over the Neepawa Tigers in varsity volleyball play. The Inter-zone game was played on Thursday, Nov. 17. at the NACI gymnasium, with a chance to advance to provincials on the line. Though Neepawa came into this contest ranked ninth in the province, they simply couldn’t keep pace with the top team in the “AAA” high school volleyball power rankings.

An early lead and outstanding 51 save effort from goaltender Brady Plett were not enough for the Neepawa Farmers, as they fell to the Boissevain Border Kings 5-3 on Friday, Nov. 18, in Boissevain. Neepawa jumped out to the 1-0 advantage quickly in this Tiger Hills Hockey League showdown, as Cam Tibbett scored just 1:20 into the opening period.

Some of the top female teams in bantam and midget hockey assembled in Neepawa this past weekend for the second annual Keith Jordan Memorial Tournament. The event, which is named after the well respected local minor hockey official, who passed away in 2015, featured teams from Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Neepawa was represented by the Natives Bantam and Midget girls squads. In the Bantam category, a team from Regina claimed the banner, defeating Carman 5-0 in the championship game, while a club from Birtle/Hamiota blanked Melita 3-0 in the Midget final.
