The Christmas break appears to have invigorated the Neepawa Natives, as the team closed out 2016 with their best on-ice performance of the season. Lead by a four point effort from 20-year-old Reigan Buchanan (two goals - two assists), Neepawa topped the Swan Valley Stampeders on Dec. 30, by the score of 6-2. Affiliate player Mackenzie Belinski added a pair of assists in his first game of the year in a Natives uniform.

Farmers win sixth straight

The Neepawa Farmers closed out 2016 with an important 5-1 win over the Minnedosa Bombers. The victory was Neepawa’s sixth straight and moved the team into a tie for first place in the Tiger Hills Hockey League’s eastern division. The Farmers, along with the Carberry Plainsmen, now share top spot with identical 8-4-0 records. Minnedosa is close behind with a record of 7-3-0.

If you’re a fan of basketball, mark Monday, Jan. 30 on your calendar, because that’s the day the Neepawa Tigers and Carberry Cougars junior varsity teams will once again play each other. If it’s anything like their first contest on Monday, Dec. 19th, it’ll be one to remember.

The Neepawa Natives have headed into the Christmas hiatus with a little bit of momentum, picking up three of a possible four points in their last two regular season games. The MJHL club first collected a lone point on Friday, Dec. 16, in 5-4 shootout loss to the Selkirk Steelers at the Yellowhead Centre. They’d follow that up on Saturday, Dec. 17 with a 4-3 victory in Waywayseecappo against the Wolverines.

NACI Tigers hockey close out busy December schedule

The month of December has been an extremely hectic time for the Neepawa Tigers hockey team. After playing three league games from Dec. 2-4, The Tigers returned to tournament action as they participated in the 26th annual Crocus Plains High School Hockey Tournament, Dec. 8-11.
